A Quality Nursing Home
Faculty, of course, are concerned about selecting nursing homes that provide quality care, which is a multidimensional concept. Consequently, evaluating the quality of a nursing home cannot be determined only by reviewing data or asking others about the reputation of a nursing home.
So, how do you select a nursing home for student clinical experiences? Or, if you already have a clinical affiliation with one or more nursing homes, how do you know they are the best ones for student learning? The factors you should pay most attention to are:
- Quality of care and life provided to persons living in the nursing homes
- Public reputation of the nursing home
- RN staffing
- Commitment to a person-directed philosophy of care
- Use of evidence-based nursing assessment and management practices.
